Update: Regarding Posts

Hey, everybody. I know that it's Monday and that I haven't posted a new review yet. I also know that I have not made a MFB (My Favorite Books) post this past Friday and to be honest, I completely forgot about it. Why? It's simple. Although I have already finished school two weeks ago, my schedule is pretty much full at this time. I have some important exams coming up in exactly two weeks from today and all my time is now spent on revising. I hope you all can understand the situation but I simply don't have time to post or read much anymore. I still have some written reviews from books I read in the past but even editing them or writing a post takes time.

If I still find the time during these two-three weeks to maybe write a review or a favorite book, or even read a book (which is unlikely), I am definitely going to make a new post. But because time is short, I can't promise anything. So, unless I miraculously find some mysterious free time in my schedule, I will be unable to post anything new for about two or three weeks. I'm sincerely sorry and I hope you can understand that!

Review: Take Me On (Pushing the Limits # 4)

My Rating: ★★★★☆

I have been impatiently waiting for this book ever since I finished reading the third book in the Pushing the Limits series, Crash Into You. I have to admit that I wasn't really interested in West's character in Crash Into You and I really thought that he was annoying. But when I heard he will have his own book I knew that I had to give it a try because I read all of Katie's McGarry work so far and I wanted to keep up with it.

Take Me On is the fourth book in the series and it tells the story of the infamous rich boy West Young and professional kick boxer Haley Williams. The story is a very sweet romance just like you can expect from Katie McGarry's novels (and novellas, mind you). West is an eighteen years old troublemaker while Haley is a seventeen years old nice girl who has a complicated life of her own. The two of them will therefor make an incredible pair.

West and Haley meet by accident in an almost accident. West almost hits Haley with his car and that's when the spark between them ignites. What follows is, as you imagine, a complicated friendship-to-relationship. After West gets kicked out of his home, he goes to Haley's school and when they meet again they just can't stay apart. The fight they got in the night of their first meeting obviously gets them into trouble and while Haley is desperately trying to keep West away from the repercussions, West makes it his mission to help Haley.

You can expect to hear a little about Isaiah and Rachel from Crash Into You in this book as well, seeing as how Rachel is West's little sister. Another character that we all started loving and makes an appearance and impact in this book is troubled drug dealer Abby. We also get to meet another very interesting character, Haley's cousin, Jax. So we get a not-so-mushy romance but a very good one and some extra characters that most of us are now interested in. Maybe Katie McGarry will write a story for Abby and one for Jax too now. Fingers crossed!

Overall, I thought Take Me On was a nice book and while I didn't like it as much as the first three books in the series, I think it was very good! I really liked Haley and West turned out not to be the jerk we all thought he was in Crash Into You. Needless to say, Katie McGarry did it again! Here I am hoping for Abby's book after Breaking The Rules (Echo&Noah #2) but I am left with one question: what am I going to read while waiting for the next book in the series?

MFB: Ignite Me (Shatter Me # 3)

“And we are quotation marks, inverted and upside down, clinging to one another at the end of this life sentence. Trapped by lives we did not choose.”

Ignite Me is the third and final installment in the Shatter Me series by Tahereh Mafi. The book concludes the story of seventeen years old Juliette, a girl whose touch is lethal. With a single touch, Juliette can literally shatter anything or anyone.

When I started reading this series, my expectations weren't too high and boy, was I wrong! The book is a YA dystopia and being my favorite genre, I decided to give it a try. I was not disappointed! All the books were full of action but the third one I thought was the best one because we got a little bit of everything: action, romance, friendship, character development. Suffice it to say this book completely blew me away,

Here is the official description of the book:

"The heart-stopping conclusion to the New York Times bestselling Shatter Me series, which Ransom Riggs, bestselling author of Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, called “a thrilling, high-stakes saga of self-discovery and forbidden love.”
With Omega Point destroyed, Juliette doesn’t know if the rebels, her friends, or even Adam are alive. But that won’t keep her from trying to take down The Reestablishment once and for all. Now she must rely on Warner, the handsome commander of Sector 45. The one person she never thought she could trust. The same person who saved her life. He promises to help Juliette master her powers and save their dying world . . . but that’s not all he wants with her.
The Shatter Me series is perfect for fans who crave action-packed young adult novels with tantalizing romance like Divergent by Veronica Roth, The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, and Legend by Marie Lu. Tahereh Mafi has created a captivating and original story that combines the best of dystopian and paranormal, and was praised by Publishers Weekly as “a gripping read from an author who’s not afraid to take risks.” Now this final book brings the series to a shocking and satisfying end."

I really liked that in this book, Juliette finally decided to take manners into her own hands and use her powers for the greater good. If in the previous books she was extremely scared to use her powers and she was more of a burden than any help, in the final book she joins the battle and finally learns how to cope with her overwhelming power. I really liked how her character evolved in the story and I liked seeing her become a powerful young woman.

Another thing I really loved about this book was Warner and Juliette. Warner was amazing and even though I hated his character in the first book, all the revelations about him completely changed my perspective of him. I was extremely happy that Juliette chose Warner over Adam in the end because Adam's character was ruined for me. I didn't really like him in the first book and I started hating him in the second book. By the third book I was completely sick of him.

Overall, I have to say that I'm extremely glad that I decided to read this series. I completely loved it and it has become one of my favorite dystopian series along The Hunger Games and Divergent. I definitely recommend reading the Shatter Me series and trust me when I tell you that Ignite Me is one of the best books I have read so far!

Review: Under the Never Sky (Under the Never Sky # 1)

My Rating: ★★☆☆☆

I first came across this book after hearing many great things about it. I decided to check it out and when I finally started reading it, I had pretty high expectations from it. Unfortunately, my expectations were not met. This book was very confusing at times. The third-person view had me wondering which character the author was talking about many times. Also, the terms describing specific elements of the Under the Never Sky universe were extremely confusing at first. Unfortunately, not all of them were offered an actual explanation so we're left trying to decipher them ourselves.

What I liked about this book was the female leading character, Aria. It was mostly her that kept me interested in this book and kept me reading it. I liked how strong and determined she was, never once complaining during her rough journey with Peregrine and Roar. Even though she didn't know Perry and was afraid of him in the beginning, she realized that the only way she'd survive was to follow him. So she puts her trust in him and tries to keep up with him without complaining. She becomes stronger during the journey and in the end she seems an unbreakable person.

Peregrine had his ups and down but overall, I didn't find his character too interesting. I disliked how he blamed Aria for everything that he had lost in the beginning because it was his own choice to help her during the fire in Ag 6. I disliked how he only kept her around only to help him get to Marron in the beginning. I guess he made up for it later in the book but around the final chapters when he left her again, his character was ruined for me.
Roar seemed like an interesting character and at times he was really funny. I also liked how he taught Aria to fight and defend herself using knives. I can see his character playing an essential part in the next books.

Overall, I have to say that I wasn't impressed with this book and I found it quite boring. I am not trying to bash out other people's opinions, I am simply stating mine. Maybe this book truly was amazing to many others but for me, it just wasn't. At times, I found myself struggling to keep reading it and I even considered dropping it because I just couldn't bear to read any longer. Maybe that's why it took me so long to read it, seeing as how I always took breaks from it. Sadly, I cannot rate this book higher than 2 stars and I think it's safe to say that I won't be reading the sequel anytime soon.
